Here is a list of the equipment I use. Some things are different model numbers from when I purchased them, but I made them as close as possible.

I have experience with all of these items. If any of them lose the link or get discontinued, let me know so I can keep all these links updated.

Audio Equipment

The SteinbergUR44C is my main audio recording interface. I absolutely love it. If I could only keep one thing from my setup, this would be it.

My monitors are getting old and don’t appear on Amazon anymore. These models are slightly less powerful but are newer from the same original line.

The Spark microphone by Blue is my secret weapon. It outperforms microphones 3x the price. I have an original in its original color as well as a second one in orange. I love them!

It’s hard to go wrong with AKG headphones. These are semi-open, meaning you won’t get complete isolation in these. But they are great for mixing in long sessions because your ears don’t get really tired.

It’s all in vain if a power spike kills your equipment. I trust Furman power conditioners.

I don’t get expensive mic stands. I just go for ones that get the job done.

The SM58 has been the stage industry standard for decades. When I’m in a pinch, I can still use it to record or perform live. It’s not my main mic, but it’s great to have in my mic locker.

I’ve recorded on this microphone sometimes, especially when I’m on the road. This is a hand-held microphone but it is designed to get studio sound on stage. I love this microphone almost as much as the Spark. In fact, if I could only keep one mic for both recording AND live performance, I’d choose this one.

The Blue company makes the Yeti for podcasters, but I’ve actually recorded music on it as well. It is very portable and connects directly to a computer or iPad through USB. So you don’t need a separate interface.

This is the baby brother of the SteinbergUR44C, and works just as well. I’ve used this one but I found I needed more mic inputs to record groups. If you are a solo artist, I’d recommend this one.

Bose headphones color the sound, so it isn’t a good idea to mix in these. However, I like to record in them because they isolate the outside noise so well. I also casual-listen in them because they make everything sound better.

When my own son wanted to purchase an audio interface on his own as a 12-year-old, this is the one I recommended to him. It worked very well. In fact, I was surprised. I could use this one in a pinch.

A little less crisp but with a bigger bottom end, I’ve used the Baby Bottle to record people in the past. It works well for instruments, too.

Woo hoo! This was my secret weapon starting out. This microphone is such a steal! I could keep recording on it if I wanted. My first two a cappella albums were recorded on an MXL. They are a little fragile, so I don’t consider them good traveling mics. But they are awesome for the studio at this price point.

I use this keyboard when I’m on the road OR at home! I use it to play all my virtual digital instruments except piano.

This is the newer version of the piano keyboard I use. I love the fact that it weighs more in the low end just like a real piano. I use it to play my piano virtual instruments, but the on-board piano sound is good enough to perform live if I need to.

Video and other equipment

It’s amazing what you can get done for under $1000. I use this on all my music videos. I probably should upgrade, but it works so well I don’t feel like spending $2000. Do I really need 8K? I’ll stick with this for the foreseeable future.

You cannot skimp on a tripod. You have to have a fluid-head tripod or it will come across as cheap. This is the least expensive one we found, and it lasted us about 4 years, traveling with us everywhere we went across the country. Highly recommend.

When I create music videos, I sing along with the recording. We use this Bluetooth speaker to blast the music so I can hear it. We have a pair of them, and they do link together if we need them to. It’s also waterproof.

A great set of lights! We use them all the time.

We love our Ronin gimbal. It gives us a smooth look wherever we might be trying to film. It handles the Canon Rebel T7i perfectly. It has super long battery life.

Nice and portable.

For places where I can’t blast the music through a Bluetooth speaker, I use this earpiece. I can hear the music and silently mouth the words and I can be filmed from a distance with virtually no one around me realizing it!

I love this mouse. I switch between it and my Apple Trackpad.

This is the update to the monitor I use.

Nothing beats the Apple Trackpad! So portable and precise.
