“Be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
There is a lot of panic going on in the world right now, but we can take these two verses as the way to obtain God’s peace, even when the world around us falls apart. What do these verses mean? Let’s pick them apart and explain it piece by piece.
“Be careful for nothing”
“Careful” means “to worry”. In other words, “Don’t worry about anything”. This does not mean that we sit back and do nothing when scary things happen. We are still supposed to do the things we can do to prepare for whatever we see coming. What it means is that we are not to worry about things we cannot control, or the things we can’t see coming. God is in control, and whether or not things get better or worse, He knows, and He is with us the entire time.
“But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
In order to obtain God’s peace, we have to talk to Him. He already knows everything, but we are still to ask Him for what we need, and not just the essential needs, but anything from the serious o the petty we are to take to Him in prayer, but that is not all. We are also to remember what He has done for us in the past, and thank Him for it. Having a good memory for what God has already brought us through, and asking Him and relying on Him to answer are how we obtain His peace.
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
God promises us, not deliverance from our troubles, which He does still do, but rather His peace to go through them. If we stop worrying about what we cannot control, have a good memory for what He has done for us, and give what we can and cannot control to Him, He will give it to us. Peace that we and the rest of the panicking world will never understand. So if you are worried today, whether about something big like the sickness going around, or something small like where are you going to find more “just in case” toilet paper, God knows, and He and His peace will be with you.
